The Artist - Lucy UnwinI grew up on an arable farm in rural Essex which stimulated my interest in nature and wildlife from an early age. Hours spent in the garden and woodlands looking for bird's nests and collecting fossils were perhaps the foundations of an ongoing passion for the natural world and countryside. Regular visits to the Devon, Cornish and Norfolk coasts further extended this interest to the marine environment, and a collection of fossils and shells ensued. Graduating from Winchester School of art in 2006 with a BA in Fine Art Sculpture I immediately travelled to Pietrasanta, Italy to spend a month carving marble and sourcing stone to begin my career as a sculptor. My current work explores our existence within nature and our connection to the marine environment. Having exhibited and sold work nationally and internationally, I am currently working towards a solo show with Messum’s gallery. | |
