The Artist - Anne-Marie Moss SWS
During my career as a theatre/TV prop maker in London I developed a love of carving, so in 1991 I returned to college to study life sculpture at The Frink school of Sculpture in Stoke on Trent. Most of my work is based on the human form and is often emotive. I use recycled stone, some is from the West Country but more recently I have acquired Alabaster and Marble from Carrera. This makes it more exciting as I often don’t know what will turn up next! The stone is carved in a way that entices the viewer to engage with the senses and develops through working sympathetically with that particular rock shape and type. I work the stone direct when creating abstract sculpture which means working without a preconceived idea which is very freeing. Some stones take a fine polish and a lot of work to finish whereas others lend themselves to texture and tooled surfaces. The highlight to 2023 was the sale of a small sculpture to a good friend purchased in memory of his partner who had passed away.
